Second half goals by Dips sink men’s soccer, 2-1

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team scored in the first minute and held the lead for the next 59 minutes, but host Franklin & Marshall College scored twice in the second half for a 2-1 win Saturday evening in Centennial Conference action. In a game with not much offense, all three shots on goal found the back of the net.

Fernando Gracia netted his first goal of the season just 50 seconds into the contest. Matt Gorski fed Gracia for his team-leading fourth assist of the season.

The rest of the half went scoreless. Haverford (4-5, 1-3 CC) did not attempt a shot while the Diplomats took five. F&M (7-2-1, 3-1 CC) had six corner kicks, but could not muster any offense.

In the 59th minute Eric Noto got the Dips on the board when his shot from the top of the box tied the score at 1-1. F&M had a number of opportunites over the next 21 minutes, taking four shots and three corners before Rodrigo Nogales set up Rob Hassler for the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute. Hassler's shot was just out of the reach of goalkeeper Charlie Michele.

In the final 10 minutes Haverford took only one shot. Edward Gracia's shot off a corner sailed high with six minutes remaining.

Neither goalie made a save in the contest since the only shots on goal resulted in goals. Michele suffered his first lost of the season to fall to 1-1 while Zach Zamek improved to 7-2-1.

The Fords travel to Delaware Valley College for a non-conference game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
