Choctaws blank men’s soccer, 3-0

JACKSON, Miss. – The Haverford College men's soccer opened its two-day trip down south with a 3-0 loss to Mississippi College Tuesday afternoon at Harper Davis Field. The Choctaws had three different players score goals in the win over Haverford.

Despite the final score both team were relatively even in shots. Mississippi (9-1-3) held a 15-11 advantage for the game, and they were tied at six each through the first 45 minutes.

Stephen Ekugwum opened the scoring for Mississippi with a header two minutes in off a corner kick from Ryan Berryhill. Five of Haverford's (5-7) six shots in the first half were on goal, but none could get past goalkeeper Joseph Fernandes. Matt Gorski attempted two that were stopped by Fernandes.

The second half went scoreless for the first 33 minutes until the Choctaws extended the lead in the 77th minute on a goal from Richard Colorado. Dylan Boudreaux added the final score one minute later on assists from Colorado and Ekugwum.

Fernandes and Denton Gottung combined for the shutout, making six saves. Charlie Michele made three saves in the loss for the Fords.

The Scarlet and Black close out their trip facing Millsaps College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. (CT).
