Restrepo’s two goals help men’s soccer take Lasell, 2-1, in OT

NORTON, Mass. – David Restrepo's goal in the 100th minute propelled the Haverford College men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory at Lasell (Mass.) College Thursday afternoon. Restrepo put the Fords on the board in the 28th minute in addition to the game-winner.

Haverford (7-3-2) held an offensive advantage the entire game, taking 25 shots to just 14 for the Lasers. However, the Fords had very little to show for it thanks to the play of Lasell (6-6-1) goalkeeper Matthew Bruninghaus who made 14 saves on the day.

The Fords managed to get one shot by Bruninghaus in the 28th minute as Restrepo notched his second goal in as many games on an assist from Matt Wetherell. Bruninghaus denied Haverford from taking a two-goal lead into halftime, making three saves in the final 17 minutes of the opening half.

In the second half it was more of the same. Bruninghaus stifled nine HC shots, giving his team a chance to tie the score. In the 70th minute Lasell did just that on Dan Hatch's goal from Evan Gaccione. Bruninghaus came up with three more saves in the final 20 minutes to send the game into overtime.

In overtime the Fords' patience was rewarded as Alejandro Rettig y Martinez found Restrepo for the golden goal with seven seconds left.

Jamey Applegate put forth a solid performance for the Fords, making five saves in nearly 100 minutes.

The victory improves Haverford's overtime record to 2-0-2 this season.

The Fords return home Saturday to host Dickinson College at 3 p.m. in Centennial Conference play. Saturday's match will also be Senior Day and the team's four seniors will be honored prior to the start.
