Rineer named interim men’s soccer head coach

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College Director of Athletics Wendy Smith '87 announced that Shane Rineer has been appointed the interim head coach of the men's soccer program. Rineer will assume his duties on Monday, July 25.

"I want to thank Wendy and her staff for this great opportunity," said Rineer. "I am excited to be at Haverford and build on the success of the program. I can't wait to get started and hit the ground running."

Last season, Rineer was an assistant coach at Amherst College. He was responsible for scouting, game plan development, training and film analysis for a Lord Jeffs team that was 13-2-4 and reached the third round of the NCAA Division III championship tournament.

Before joining the Amherst staff, Rineer was a two-year assistant coach for Division I Villanova University. As the leader of the team's player development program, he helped the Wildcats earn their first ever Big East tournament home game in 2009. Rineer also had a hand in the program's training, scouting, film breakdown and recruiting.

Rineer's collegiate coaching career began with a two-year stint at Eastern University. In 2007, he helped lead the Eagles to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) title and an NCAA tournament appearance.

A 2006 graduate of Eastern with a degree in early childhood education, Rineer earned All-PAC honors in 2004 and 2005. He was a member of the 2003 and 2005 PAC championship teams that went to the NCAA tournament.

"Shane's commitment to and enthusiasm for the academically based Division III experience of the student-athletes made him the perfect choice to lead our men's soccer program," said Smith. "His emphasis on excellence both on and off the field mirrors Haverford's mission and bodes well for the team's success in the upcoming season."
