Fords dominate possession in win over Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team upended host Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon, downing the Ravens by a score of 2-0 in a non-conference match that opened the season for both squads.

The only goal the Fords (1-0) would need turned out to be Sam Yarosh's first collegiate tally, coming in the game's sixth minute. Yarosh knocked home his marker from in front of the net after receiving a cross from David Robinson who earned the assist.

Haverford reeled off 32 shots in the game with 10 making it on frame. Rosemont (0-1) goalkeeper Nick Hulayew did his part to hold the Fords at bay coming up with eight saves in the loss.

The Ravens were stymied most of the afternoon generating 13 shots and only four corner kick opportunities. Four of the host's shots made it on frame where Haverford's Andriy Mshanetskyy came up perfect, stopping each of Rosemont's threats to record the shutout.

Still, the Haverford lead was by just a goal until Matt Gorski provided the Fords with a two-goal cushion by notching his first of the season, drilling home a shot from 15 yards out in the 67th minute.

"Our guys put forth great effort today, and we got the result we were looking for to start the season," said second-year head coach Shane Rineer. "It was good to be able to apply the things we'd been working on during the preseason, and to also see the areas where we need to continue to improve."

Haverford hosts seventh-ranked Messiah College in its next outing, a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. on Walton Field.
