Early Gorski goals set tone for Fords in win over Griffins

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Matt Gorski scored twice early in Saturday's non-conference contest against visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College as host Haverford College downed the Griffins, 5-0, in the opening game of the Jimmy Mills Classic at the Fords' Walton Field.

Gorski slammed home a feed from David Robinsonin the opening seconds of the 11th minute to give Haverford (2-1) the lead, then converted a penetrating pass from Robinson two minutes later for what proved to be an insurmountable lead.

The Griffins (0-3) were limited to four shots -- none of which required a save though one long volley clanged off the crossbar -- while the Fords peppered Gwynedd-Mercy goalie Greg Gengaro with 22 shots. Gengaro took the loss after stopping nine of the 14 Haverford shots that made it on frame.

Julien Calas gave the Fords a three-goal lead minutes before the half, then Robinson and Sam Yarosh each added a second-half tally to set the game's final margin of victory.

The Classic continues on Sunday with the Fords squaring off at 1 p.m. against Frostburg State which played Ursinus College in Saturday's second game.
