ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team could not overcome two second half goals scored by Eastern University and fell 2-0 to the host Eagles in a non-conference contest Wednesday afternoon.

The Fords (3-4) and Eastern (4-1-1) played a physical first half of action that saw neither team able to get on the scoreboard despite a combined 11 shots between the two squads.

Ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the Eagles opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the second half when Jair Saenz sailed a free kick from midfield over Haverford goalie Nick Kahn (0-1).

Senior Julien Calas came close to knotting the score 12 minutes later with a header but Eastern goalie Kyle Nichols (4-1-1) came up with one of his seven saves on the afternoon.

The Eagles broke through again with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest on Ben Hriscu's sixth of the year to stretch their advantage to 2-0. Turning up the pressure on Eastern, the Fords fired three shots in the closing minutes but time ran out on their attempt to rally.

Senior Dan Garfing tallied three of Haverford's seven shots on goal in the contest.

"We had a couple of lapses tonight that hurt us and we are going to need to concentrate more on giving a sustained 90-minute effort," reflected head coach Shane Rineer.

Returning to Centennial Conference action, the Fords head to Franklin & Marshall College on Sept. 22 in the last of four-straight contests on the road. The game against the Diplomats, ranked fourth in the region, begins at 6 p.m.
