HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team took a huge step towards clinching a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament and hosting the opening round matchup with a 3-0 win over Ursinus on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords (9-6, 4-4 CC) scored with just under seven minutes to play in the opening half and twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half against the visiting Bears (6-7-3, 3-4-1 CC). The matchup was a meeting between the fourth and fifth place teams in the conference standings entering play today.

The Fords nearly got on the scoreboard on their first offense attack of the game as Sam Yarosh put a header on goal that was saved by a Bears' defender to keep the game scoreless. For much of the opening half, the two sides played a possession game in order to set up the offense. That patience paid off for the hosts in the 39th minute when Ben Field made a nice run with the ball to the corner. He was able to beat his defender and cross the ball across the six. That cross would eventually skip to the far post where Brady Seitz was waiting for his first of two goals on the afternoon. Field's assist was his third of the season.

Taking that 1-0 lead into the half, Haverford added two more quick tallies shortly after the break as the quick drenching of rain came over the stadium. This time it was Seitz that set up the goal as he found Dorian Wirz for the finish. Wirz's goal was his first of the season and second of his career. Seitz's assist was his third of the season.

Seitz would go on to prominently figure into each of the three goals by bookending his day with the game's third goal after also scoring the game-winning goal in the first half. This goal was set up by Jaimon Olmstead just outside of the 18. His crossing pass found the head of Colin Seitz, who was then able to flick it on to Brady Seitz for the header finish. Colin Seitz now has three assists on the year. Olmstead's assist was the first point of the sophomore defender's collegiate career.

With his second goal of the game, Brady Seitz now has 10 for the season. With that 10th goal he becomes the first Fords' player since the 2000 season to score 10 or more goals in a season. The last person to accomplish that feat was John Heacock '04. Heacock scored 10 goals in his freshman campaign during that 2000 season.

Defensively, Yarosh made one team save for the Fords as he stopped a ball on the goal line in the 51st minute to deny Ursinus' best scoring chance. Sam Miller handled the rest of the shots on the evening to record his fourth shutout of the season and improve to 8-3 overall this season.

Prior to the game, the team honored the lone member of its senior class in Charlie Crawford. In addition to finishing with the 3-0 win on Senior Day, Crawford took one shot for the Fords. He was one of seven players to record a shot for Haverford on the night.

Men's soccer will wrap up the regular season this Saturday against Swarthmore. That match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. In addition to the annual Hood Trophy implications, the Fords can clinch a home playoff game with a victory in the regular season finale.
