BALTIMORE – The Haverford College men's soccer team opened Centennial Conference play with a 1-0 victory on the road against Johns Hopkins. The Fords (3-3, 1-0 CC) got a goal from Sam Yarosh in the 29th minute of play that would stand up at the final buzzer against the Blue Jays (4-3-1, 0-1 CC). Saturday's road clash was a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference first round match.

Dating back to the regular season meeting between these two schools a year ago, the Fords now own three straight wins over Johns Hopkins for just the second time in program history. During the 2013 season, Haverford also earned a point with a road draw in Baltimore. The last time the Fords beat the Blue Jays in three straight matches was a span of four straight wins during the 1982 through 1985 seasons when the teams were in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Yarosh's team-leading sixth goal of the season is also the top mark in the Centennial Conference. His first half goal came after a double assist from Ben Clark and Brady Seitz after a cross from Clark found the head of Seitz and eventually Yarosh for the finish. Sam Miller made four saves on the afternoon to earn the shutout victory.

The Fords' only goal they needed on Saturday afternoon came after very heavy pressure to start the match. Before Yarosh was able to break through against the Johns Hopkins' defense, the Fords sent three shots just off target, had another two shots that were saved, and a pair of early corner kick chances. When the halftime buzzer sounded on the first 45 minutes, Haverford had amassed a 9-4 edge in shots.

The host Blue Jays threatened for an extended period of time in the second half as they took four shots from the 77th through 81st minute. However, two of those shots were blocked down by the Haverford defense, while Miller made the first of his second half two saves in the 80th minute of play. He later preserved the shutout with his final save of the afternoon in the 87th minute of play. The Blue Jays also had a shot travel wide of goal as time was winding down in regulation.

Yarosh finished with three of Haverford's 12 shots on the afternoon. Will Corkery, Tejan Walcott and Seitz also had a pair of shots for the afternoon. The Blue Jays held a 9-3 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes of play, but managed just the two late shots on goal during that period.

With the victory to start Centennial Conference action, the Fords will now host Stockton this Wednesday in a 4 p.m. non-conference battle. Men's soccer returns to Centennial Conference action next Saturday when McDaniel comes to campus.
