Yarosh Honored by Conference After Historic Victory

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the second consecutive week and fourth time overall this season, Sam Yarosh has been honored as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The Fords (12-3, 7-0 CC) had just one match this week, but made the most of it as they took down No. 1 and previously undefeated Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

Yarosh's offensive exploits helped get the Fords back into the match after surrendering an early goal. The senior captain assisted on the game-tying goal before scoring Haverford's third and final goal of the afternoon for the program's second win all-time against a No. 1 ranked team in the country. The previous occasion came during the 1988 season when the Fords topped then-No. 1 Elizabethtown to capture the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship.

On Saturday, Yarosh and Colin Seitz hit a couple of quick passes before crossing to Tejan Walcott in front of the goal to knot the score in the ninth minute of play. The Fords tallied the eventual game-winning goal as Will Corkery banged home a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Yarosh took care of things himself for Haverford's final goal of the afternoon as his unassisted tally in the 38th minute of play was the final scoring of the day.

Yarosh's latest goal now adds to his conference leading total of 14 goals and 33 points. His six game-winning goals also rank as the top mark in the Centennial Conference and fourth in all of Division III. He is also 23rd and 27th nationally in goals and points, respectively. As a team, the Fords have the top two game-winning goal producers in the conference as Corkery now has four game-winning goals after Saturday to go along with his conference-best 11 assists.

The win against No. 1 Franklin & Marshall was Haverford's 10th straight; tying the program record that has been reached on four other occasions. The last time Haverford claimed 10 straight outright victories came during the 1992 season. Haverford is now unbeaten in its last 11 home Centennial Conference regular season matchups dating back to the 2013 season. The last 10 of those have all been outright wins, ranking just one shy of the program record which was set during the 1970 season.

Already assured a position in the playoffs, men's soccer can wrap up the right to host the conference tournament on Walton Field with a victory Wednesday at Ursinus. That match will get underway at 7:30. Haverford closes out the regular season this coming Saturday with rival Swarthmore. The match will also be Senior Day for the team.
