No. 6 Men's Soccer Draws with No. 10 Lycoming, 2-2

HAVERFORD, Pa.  – The sixth-ranked Haverford College men's soccer team found itself in another top 10 showdown for the second weekend in a row against No. 10 Lycoming. The Fords (2-1-1) appeared well on their way to victory before two Lycoming goals in the final eight minutes of regulation allowed the Warriors (1-2-2) to escape Walton Field with a 2-2 draw after a scoreless pair of overtime periods.

Ryan Hill scored his first goal of the season to open Haverford's offense in the 27th minute when Tejan Walcott played a ball behind the defense that put Hill in a 1v1 situation with the goalie. With a step on the defense after the pass, Hill capitalized on the early opportunity to give his side the early lead.

Ben Field gave the Fords a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the second half when Russell Nicholson found a streaking Field from just inside of midfield. Field converted that chance for his team-leading third goal of the season in the 50th minute of game action.

Lycoming held an 18-14 advantage in shots on goal for the contest but was limited in shots on goal attempts thanks in large part to a Haverford defense that knocked down several of those chances in the box before they could reach the keeper. The Warriors' Sainclair Tueno broke through for the Warriors in the 83rd minute when he converted in the air off a pass from Kyle Thomas following a scramble in the box that was unable to be cleared. Just over five minutes later, Lycoming's Jordan Logan also finished via a header as he put home a cross from Abdullahi Abdi to knot the game at two-all.

As the game crossed into the overtime sessions, the Fords held a 5-4 edge in shots over the final 20 minutes. The two shots to reach goal in the overtime, one for each team, came just 20 seconds apart. Lycoming had the first chance, but Abdi saw his shot saved by Jeremy Astesano. Astesano came on for Sam Miller prior to the first overtime session. Just after, Nick Jannelli was stopped by the Warriors' Chris Solecki. Solecki finished with five saves for the visitors. Astesano and Miller each made one save for Haverford.

In addition to his goal, Field finished with a team-high six shots for the match. Four of his attempts were on goal. Jannelli and Walcott each had three shots during the contest.

Men's soccer will be back on the road this Wednesday for a night game at Stevens that will get underway at 7 p.m. The Ducks were receiving votes in the NSCAA preseason poll. That match will be the final tune up before Johns Hopkins comes to Walton Field next Saturday for the start of Centennial Conference play.
