Men's and Women's Soccer Earn Team Academic Honors

United Soccer Coaches Association Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's and women's soccer programs have been honored as 2017 United Soccer Coaches Association Team Academic Award winners. A total of 286 men's college programs and 539 women's college programs were honored with this distinction.

The award recognizes teams that maintain grade point averages of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The United Soccer Coaches Association Team Academic Award honors teams based on their performances from the previous academic year, in this case the 2016-17 school year.

Haverford is one of just 202 schools that had both its men's and women's team honored with this award. Both the men's and women's team have earned this honor in each of the past 12 seasons. Over the past 21 years of this award, women's soccer has won this award 20 times, while the men have been honored 19 times.

In addition to the men being honored once again, they were also ranked 10th in team GPA across all college divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA). The Fords were one of just four teams in Division III to finish in the top 10 in team GPA and qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Throughout the Centennial Conference, Dickinson and Johns Hopkins were the only other institutions to have both its men's and women's programs recognized with this academic team honor.
