Men's Soccer Draws NYU in NCAA Tournament Opening Round

Men's Soccer Draws NYU in NCAA Tournament Opening Round

NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Bracket

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team learned its path through the NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon and found out that the Fords will be playing New York University (NYU) in the opening round. Montclair State will serve as the host site for Haverford's regional which will be played on Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11. Times for the matches will be determined on Tuesday afternoon.

NYU (12-4-1, 3-3-1 UAA) made the tournament as an at-large selection and did not have any common opponents with Haverford as the Violets had their match against Drew canceled due to inclement weather and Haverford's game with Rutgers-Camden was also canceled. Haverford is a perfect 4-0 all-time vs. NYU but has not played them since 1992. The other three meetings came in 1923, 1924, and 1925.

Montclair State (17-1-2, 8-0-1 NJAC) and Colby (8-6-4, 3-5-2 NESCAC) will make up the other regional semifinal in the Fords' pod. Like the Fords, both teams are coming off of conference championship performances. However, their paths were completely different as Montclair State was the top seed in the NJAC, while Colby was the final team to clinch a spot in the NESCAC Tournament before coming from the No. 8 seed to win that automatic qualifier.

Haverford is 1-1 all-time against Montclair State, dropping a 3-2 decision in the most recent meeting during the 2015 season. Should Haverford and Colby both advance, it would be the first time either of those teams have met in program history.

The Fords enter the NCAA Tournament with a ton of momentum and are currently riding an 11-match winning streak. That stretch is the second-longest in school history. Only the Fords' 16-match winning streak which was ended in the Elite Eight of the 2015 NCAA Tournament tops that stretch in the program's decorated history.

Haverford will be making its seventh appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament when play gets underway this weekend. The Fords previously made the tournament in 1976, 1977, 1980, 2012, 2015, and 2016. Haverford has won three of the last four Centennial Conference Championships, capturing four Centennial Conference crowns overall.
