Three Named All-Region for Men's Soccer

United Soccer Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team had three players garner All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association. Haverford's three honorees tie the program record when the Fords also had three all-region performers during the Centennial Conference Championship seasons in 2015 and 2016. Nick Jannelli earned first-team honors, while senior captains Ben Clark and Michael Carr were second-team honorees. The All-Mid-Atlantic Region selections marked the first such occasion for each of the three honorees.

Nick Jannelli is the fourth first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection in the Centennial Conference era for the Fords as he joins former teammates Will Corkery '17 and Maclyn Willigan '17, along with former CC Player of the Year Sam Yarosh '16. The Centennial Conference Player of the Year led the conference in goals (13), assists (9), points (35), shots (71), and game-winning goals (7). The junior was selected as the Centennial Conference Player of the Week twice this fall and has earned that award five times over his first three seasons.

Ben Clark was named first-team All-Centennial Conference for the first time in his career this fall. The senior captain was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Fords hold Gettysburg scoreless during the regular season, Clark was vital in Haverford's efforts to limit opponents just 0.54 goals per game in conference matchups. That included five shutouts during Haverford's nine regular season Centennial clashes. For good measure, Clark also assisted on Haverford's game-winning goal during the Fords' 3-0 win at Ursinus.

Michael Carr also earned first-team All-Centennial Conference recognition in the midfield. A four-year starter, Carr was key to all aspects of Haverford's victories. He scored four goals (three game-winners) and added three assists during the regular season, but was at his best during the Centennial Conference showdowns as he scored two game-winning goals and assisted on two others in that stretch. He scored his game-winning goals against Gettysburg and Swarthmore, while setting up the eventual game-winners against Johns Hopkins and Washington College.

Men's soccer won its third Centennial Conference Championship over the past four years this fall. The Fords have now hoisted the conference trophy four times since the 2012 season. Haverford compiled a 14-4-1 overall record and had won 11 straight matches before falling to New York University in penalty kicks during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
