2018 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Soccer Team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Nick Jannelli was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Jannelli's gives the Fords eight student-athletes recognized on the academic all-area team during the past four years.

Just recently announced as a United Soccer Coaches Association third-team All-American, Jannelli was also the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honoree during another championship campaign for the Fords. He has been named first-team All-Centennial Conference on two occasions, earning second-team honors in 2016 when he was selected as the conference's rookie of the year. Jannelli has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week on five occasions throughout his career, earning that recognition twice this fall.

Jannelli led the Centennial Conference in goals (13), assists (9), points (35), shots (71), penalty kicks (4-for-5), and game-winning goals (7). Those seven game-winning goals tied the school's single-season record which. In Centennial Conference matches, Jannelli led his conference peers in goals (8), assists (4), points (20), penalty kicks (3-for-4), and game-winning goals (4). Haverford was a perfect 11-0 this season when Jannelli found the back of the net, with his most notable goal coming in double overtime against Franklin & Marshall to win the conference title for the third time in four seasons on Walton Field.

Heading into his senior season, Jannelli already owns the school record with 14 career game-winning goals. He is currently tied with Mike Nelson '88 for 11th in school history with 34 career goals, while his 84 career points are the 12th highest mark in program history. Jannelli's 35 points in 2018 marked the 14th best single-season total in the College's decorated history. He has led Haverford in both goals and points during each of his three seasons, also adding the most assists during his two most recent campaigns.

Men's soccer won its third Centennial Conference Championship over the past four years this fall. The Fords have now made eight straight trips to the Centennial Conference Tournament and have hoisted the conference trophy four times during that span. Haverford compiled a 14-4-1 overall record this fall and before falling to New York University in penalty kicks during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
