Men's Soccer Settles for Draw at Susquehanna, 2-2

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (0-0-2) was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw after a late goal from host Susquehanna (0-1-1) evened the score in a hard-fought contest under the lights at Sassafras Field Tuesday evening.

Traveling more than two hours on the first day of classes, The Fords shook off any rust in pregame warmups and came out firing in the early goings, testing River Hawks goalkeeper Santiago Andino with energy. Haverford appeared to have the offensive momentum in its favor as Cyrus Nasseri, Peebles, and Aidan Lacy each peppered shots in the first 10 minutes.

The hosts flipped the script, and scored first in the 20th minute, with Adrian Dilascio burying a pass from Max Paczewski to open the action. Andrew Fritz and Joey Carol tallied shots in the waning moments of the first half, but Susquehanna went to the intermission in the lead.

Haverford then scored on consecutive shots in the second half. In the 47th minute, Juan Rivera curled a corner kick into the box that found the waiting head of Peebles, who was able to slam home the equalizer, his second goal of the young season.

The Fords then went ahead in the 59th minute, as Caleb Miller found Alex Millones in the box. Millones gave the visitors the 2-1 advantage with his second tally of the season, and suddenly Haverford found itself with all of the momentum yet again, now in the lead for the first time on the evening.

Jack Bonner had a shot on frame saved in the 78th minute, and Susquehanna later took advantage of a late opportunity in the 87th minute, as MJ Dungo found the back of the net off assists from Ben Sweeney and Paczewski to level the score at 2-2, yet again stunning the Fords who appeared to be cruising towards a win.

Susquehanna had one last-ditch attempt to secure a win, and very nearly did so in the 90th minute. With just 16 seconds remaining on the game clock, Dungo fired a laser towards the near post, but Ioffreda was in a great position to make a heroic lunging save to preserve the draw. Ioffreda finished with a pair of saves as the River Hawks tallied only five shots on the evening.

In total, Haverford held a 12-5 edge in shots, and collected nine corners while holding Susquehanna without a corner attempt.

The Fords now return home to Walton Field for the annual Jimmy Mills Classic. The two-day tournament will see the Fords face off with a pair of NJAC foes - William Paterson on Saturday, September 9 before Haverford returns on Sunday, September 10 to do battle with Rowan. The start time for each contest is slated for 12 p.m.
