Why did you choose Haverford?
I chose Haverford foremost for the terrific education I knew I
would receive. I liked the small class sizes and discussion based
teaching approach. However, it was really the Haverford students
that made the decision to attend an easy one. I felt like the
students were great kids who possessed a real intellectual
curiosity. The ability to play soccer in college, and the
possibility to have a direct impact on the program in my freshman
year were also draws to the college.
Favorite class?
My favorite class has been a political science course titled,
Politics of Immigration, taught by Professor Anita Isaacs. We
studied the U.S. – Latin America immigration debate from all
angles. We became as close to "experts" on the topic as possible,
and after extensive research, including visiting Washington D.C. to
speak with politicians and NGO's directly involved in the debate,
formulated and presented our own policy proposal as a solution to
the current situation.
How the Haverford experience is unique?
At Haverford we often speak to the sense of "community" that
exists at the college. Until you are here, it is a concept that can
be foreign and hard to believe for outsiders. People at the school
truly care about one another, a factor directly attributed to our
Honor Code. Haverford is one of the very few schools in the nation
where the Honor Code pertains to both academic and social realms.
The trust, concern and respect for others that our Honor Code
entails, is experienced every day by the student body.
What does it mean to you to be a
student-athlete?
Being a student-athlete means being able to balance your time
between academics, extra-curricular activities, and playing your
sport. As an athlete, you are a natural representative of the
school. Haverford does a great job of providing support to its
student athletes; the coaches, administration, staff and faculty
are supportive of the athletic programs and provide any help that
is necessary.
Favorite place to hang out on campus?
My favorite place to hang out is in my apartment common room in
the Haverford College Apartments. A bunch of guys on the soccer
team, and a lot of our close friends are part of a floor plan in
one of the apartments. There is always something going on, whether
it is a sports game on TV, XBOX, or just watching a movie.
