Xiang takes first in 400 at McElligott Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – While half of the Haverford College men's and women's indoor track & field teams were running at the Boston University Terrier Invitational Saturday, the other half was holding down the home base at the McElligott Invitational held at Alumni Field House.

The meet was highlighted by the men's one-two finish in the 400 meter dash. Willie Xiang won the race in a time of 51.62 seconds while Gebby Keny was hot on his trail at 51.97.

Sally Weathers had the women's highest finish on the track, taking fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:23.45. A trio of women took top-four finishes in the field events. Emma Kornetsky placed third in the long jump, with a best of 4.78 meters (15 feet, 8.25 inches). Kylie Lipinski placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.61 (34-9.75). Haley Lowrance's throw of 10.82 (35-6) in the shot put gave her third place.

Both teams will host the Keogh Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. The men will send runners to the New Balance Games at the New York City Armory Friday evening.
