Two individuals, one relay team headed to NCAA championship

Sunday afternoon the NCAA announced the list of participants who will be competing at the 2011 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship. Haverford College will be well represented as one individual from both the men's and women's teams along with one men's relay team will be making the trip to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend.

Christina Neilson was selected to participate in the 55 meter dash after running a provisional qualifying standard time of 7.26 seconds at the Centennial Conference championship meet two weekends ago. Neilson has the 14th-fastest time of the 15 participants in the race. The preliminaries will take place Friday at 7:05 p.m. If Neilson qualifies for the final it will take place Saturday at 5:55 p.m.

On the men's side, Anders Hulleberg will run in the 5,000 meter run Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. Hulleberg qualified by running to a provisional time of 14 minutes, 34.44 seconds (14:30.84 banked) at the Boston University Terrier Invitational in January and has the 10th-fastest time of the 13 entrants in the race. Hulleberg will try to join Seamus McElligott '91 and J.B. Haglund '02 as the only Haverford runners to win the national championship in cross country and earn indoor All-America honors in the 5,000 in the same year.

Joining Hulleberg in Columbus will be the distance medley relay (DMR) team of Eric Arnold, Andrew Golato, Ivo Milic-Strkalj and Tim Schoch. The quartet qualified by setting the school and Centennial Conference records at the New York University Team Challenge in February with a time of 9:59.01 (9:56.01 banked). That time broke the previous records which were set when the 2002 team ran to the national championship. The DMR squad has the eighth-fastest time of the 10 teams running in the event. The finals will go off at 8:15 p.m. Friday.

Capital University is the host of the championship meet.
