HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Charlie Marquardt of the Haverford College men's indoor track and field team was named the Centennial Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after he ran the fastest mile time (4:07.90) in Division III at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday.

Marquardt's original time (4:04.76) was adjusted because of the track size. His mark beat his old personal best by over three seconds and is the best time in the NCAA Division III by over four seconds. The junior finished 24th out of 308 runners in the event that was filled with Division I runners. The Ford now has two of the top 10 Division III times in the mile. He also has the best 3000m time (8:13.36) in Division III.

It's the fifth time in the junior's career in which he's won the weekly Centennial Conference honor. Marquardt won the weekly accolade for his record-breaking 3,000m run at the Tufts Stampede two weeks ago and after winning the mile event at the NYC Gotham Cup last month. He was athlete of the week last season after winning the 800m in the Eddie Papalia Memorial and as a freshman; he won the mile event at Lafayette/Rider Winter Games Invitational.

The runner's junior campaign has been a stellar one. During the cross country season, he won three individual titles including the Centennial Conference Championship and Mideast Regional. He was also named Centennial Conference Runner of the Week twice and the conference Runner of the Year.

The men's indoor track and field team will host the Keogh Invitational on Feb. 21. The Eddie Papalia '05 Memorial 800m run will take place as part of the meet. For more information on the memorial run, check out last year's preview.
