Charlie Marquardt Named CC Outstanding Track Performer, Tom Donnelly Coach of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, Senior Charlie Marquardt was named the Centennial Conference Outstanding Track Performer. Head coach Tom Donnelly was also named the CC Coach of the Year.

The conference released the 2016 all-conference men's indoor track and field teams on Friday and Haverford College had seven athletes on the first team and ten on the second team as well as two honorable mentions. In addition, the Fords also had one athlete named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Marquardt, who also won the award last year, marks the fourth consecutive year that Haverford has had the conference's outstanding track performer. Christopher Stadler '14 picked up the award the two seasons prior.

The Pasadena, Calif. native made headlines this season when he ran the fifth-fastest mile (4:02.24) in Division III indoor track & field history at the FastTrack National Invite in early February. The time will stand second in program history to Karl Paranya '97. A week prior to the feat, he set a Centennial Conference record in the 3,000 meters (8:06.56) at the Villanova Invitational.

Marquardt also won gold on both events at the Centennial Conference Championship last week, earning a trip to the NCAA Championship March 11-12. Throughout the season, he was once named the UTSFCCCA Athlete of the Week and three times named the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Tom Donnelly was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the sixth time. Under his guide, the men's indoor squad peaked at No. 10 in the USTFCCCA weekly rankings and finished second at the Centennial Conference Championship, winning seven out of 17 events. Donnelly was inducted into USTFCCCA Hall of Fame last year.
