Marquardt, DMR Represents Men's Indoor Track & Field at NCAA Championship

GRINNELL, IOWA – The Haverford College men's indoor track & field team competed in the NCAA Championship Friday. Senior Charlie Marquardt qualified for Saturday's final heat in the mile after completing the preliminary heat in 4:13.92. Marquardt was also a part of Haverford's distance medley team which took 11th place.

Marquardt, named the Centennial Conference Outstanding Indoor Track Performer of the Year for the second consecutive season, finished the mile run second in his heat and fourth overall.

Last month, at the Centennial Conference Championship, Marquardt finished atop the leader board in the mile run. Marquardt made headlines this season when he ran the fifth-fastest mile (4:02.24) in Division III indoor track & field history. He will enter the final heat of the mile as a favorite among nine other competitors.

Marquardt placed fifth last year in the 3,000 meters during the indoor championship. He was the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season of his junior season.

The Pasadena, California native also competed in the distance medley relay along with teammates Henry Woods, Jonathan Yellets, and Liam Lynch. The foursome finished in 11th place with a final time of 10:22.16.

Woods began the race in the 1,200 meter portion of the medley. The Haverford sophomore handed the baton to Yellets, who was running the 400 meters. Yellets passed it along to Lynch in the 800 meters who was succeeded by Marquardt in the mile.

Earlier in the year, the team completed the fourth-best time (10:00.32) in Division III in a duel meet with Widener (Feb. 15).

Marquardt will look to become a five-time All-American on Saturday as the mile run is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
