Men's Track & Field Posts Solid Indoor Debut at Ursinus Bow Tie Meet

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team opened up the indoor campaign at Ursinus, finishing fifth out of 12 teams in the annual Bow Tie Meet lid-lifter in Collegeville. The Fords took home the event title in the triple jump, with debutant Jory Lee taking the crown in the discipline. 

Lee cleared a distance of 13.14 meters (43 feet, 1.5 inches), pulling into the top 10 in program history and giving the Fords 10 points to their ledger in an impressive debut night for the first year. Just behind Lee was Ravi Eaton in third place, notching a mark of 13.05 meters (42 feet, 9.75 inches), also clearing the previous 10th-best mark in program history held by Gerald Lance '81. 

Lee was the sixth-place finisher in the long jump (6.02 meters or 19 feet, nine inches), while Alex Reichard was 10th (5.8 meters or 19 feet, 0.5 inches). Leo Gordon made his Haverford debut, clearing 4.67 meters (15 feet, 4 inches), for 15th place. 

In the sprints, Reichard qualified for the final in the 60 meters, taking an eighth place finish (7.31), improving on his PR of 7.33, a mark that was already in the top 10 in program history. In the final, he improved that time yet again, pulling to a 7.29, tying for the sixth-best individual mark in program history. David Cole was 25th (7.83) in the prelims, while Boahen Kwakye notched a 31st place showing (8.05). 

A big grouping in the 200 meters was paced by Eaton, as he finished eighth (24.10). Kinnan Abdalhamid was 23rd in his debut (25.63), ahead of Vir Goyal in 24th (25.71), while Cole (26.43), Kwakye (27.23), Matthew Ruiz (27.43), and Kevin Villafane (27.60) all posted top 40 showings. Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman wrapped up the Haverford contingent in the sprints, finishing just outside the top 40 (28.26).

Ruiz was the lone Haverford entrant in the 400 meters, crossing in 13th place overall (1:03.11), while Matthew Denton notched an extremely strong performance in the 800 meters, becoming the second entrant to finish in 1:58.93. The mile grouping also saw Haverford place three in the top 10, with that grouping paced by Michael Franco in fifth (4:32.58). Jakob Maiwald was just behind Franco for sixth (4:33.01) while Evan Daniels was seventh (4:38.16).

William Harris (4:43.65), Flyn Meadows (4:44.50), Joseph De Rosa (4:46.02), Deven Abrams (4:57.98), Seawon Park (4:58.29), and Kieran McDonnell (5:02.27) also logged top 25 place finishes in the mile. 

Haverford also had four in the 5,000 meters, with Luca Ponticello notching a fifth-place finish (15:37.21) ahead of Seamus Fraser in sixth (15:39.33). Ryan Quenemoen was the 11th finisher in that event (16:02.14) and Sammy Schindel was 14th (16:19.92). 

Cyrus Slavin was the 26th place finisher to lead the shot put contingent (10.34 meters or 33 feet, 11.25 inches), ahead of Rasaaq Shittu in 31st (9.88 meters or 32 feet, 5 inches), and Juan Miguel Pinto Diaz in 35th (7.86 meters or 25 feet, 9.5 inches). Jonah Levine made his Haverford debut with a throw of 7.84 meters (25 feet, 8.75 inches) for 36th place.  Slavin notched a 15th place showing in the weight throw (11.45 meters or 37 feet, 6.75 inches) while Diaz was 20th (8.32 meters or 27 feet, 3.75 inches). 

The Fords will now pause for finals and the winter holiday break before returning to action in the beginning of January 2023, at the TCNJ Indoor Invitational on January 14 at the world famous NYC Armory.
