History in Boston as Moreland and Kredell Smash Records at Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass. -  On a historic Friday night for the 16th-ranked Haverford College men's track & field program, seniors Jamie Moreland and Ryan Kredell climbed their way further into the indoor record books after memorable performances at the John Thomas Terrier Classic inside the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

In a loaded field full of the nation's elite indoor milers, Moreland completed the mile run as the 33rd overall finisher with a time of 4:03.66. That explosive time paced all Division III entrants and is also the fastest time in Division III so far this season. In addition, the time is the fourth-best in Haverford program history and the eighth-fastest individual mark in Division III history.

In Haverford's indoor annals, Moreland's time is behind only the marks from Charlie Marquardt '16 (4:02.24), Kevin Foley '83 (4:03.3) and the long-standing Haverford program record, which remains at 4:00.96, set by Karl Paranya '97 at the Commonwealth Invitational on Jan. 25, 1997. Paranya's time stood as the Division III record until Bowdoin College's Coby Horowitz finished with a time of 4:00.41 in 2014.

Competing in the fourth heat, the Los Angeles native finished just a tenth of a second behind Tyler Rubush of Division I Rhode Island. Moreland was just one week removed from his indoor personal best, which was set at the Villanova Invitational last Saturday on Staten Island (4:08.48).

Classmate Ryan Kredell then set the track ablaze with his 21st place finish in an extremely competitive 5,000 meters, crossing the finish in a remarkable 14:02.37. That time shattered both the Haverford College and Centennial Conference records.

The previous Centennial Conference record was held by Jordan Schilit '12, who also established that time at the Terrier Classic back in 2012 with his time of 14 minutes, 12.77 seconds. The previous Haverford record was set by Seamus McElligott '91 in 1991 (14:07.69). Kredell's time is currently third in Division III and is the fifth all-time individual mark within Division III. The Geneva, Illinois native finished sixth in the second heat, while Matthew Kearney of MIT (14:01.76) was the only Division III runner to post a better time on Friday.

With Moreland and Kredell now making their way back to campus, the rest of the Haverford squad will return to action tomorrow, as the McElligott Invitational is hosted on campus, Haverford's first home meet of the 2022-23 season. Action will begin at 10:30 a.m inside Alumni Field House.
