HAVERFORD, Pa.- Senior Matthew Denton of the Haverford College Indoor Track & Field team has been chosen as Centennial Conference Men's Indoor Track athlete of the week, the league office announced in a release this morning.

Denton earned the award after winning the Eddie Papalia ('05) Memorial 800m run at the Keogh Invitational this past Saturday inside Alumni Field House. The Cinnaminson, N.J. native crossed the finish line with a new personal best time of 1:56.11 (1:54.48 converted time for NCAA qualifying), which now ranks second in the Centennial Conference this indoor season.

The event won by Denton, was named in memory of Eddie Papalia, who was a three-time track & field All-American, who graduated from Haverford in 2005. Papalia passed away in June of 2012, and the race has been held in his memory since the 2013-14 season.

The 2023-24 campaign has already been a year of personal records for the senior, as Denton has broken new personal bests in the mile (4:15.66) and 3000 meter (8:41.56) already this season.

The impressive indoor track and field season for Denton is coming off the heels of a successful Fall 2023 cross country season, where the Camden Catholic product was named NCAA Qualifier, as well as earning  USTFCCCA All-Region, USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, and PhillySIDA Academic All-Area awards.

Next up for Denton and the rest of the Haverford Indoor College Track and Field team, is the Centennial Conference Championships on February 24 and February 25 at Franklin & Marshall.
