Full USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS -  The Haverford men's indoor track & field squad picked up a total of six All-Metro Region certificates for the 2023-24 season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in a release on Tuesday afternoon.

All-Region designation is given to student-athletes who rank within the top five marks for an individual event, according to the final descending order list in their respective regions. Runners who are part of relays that finish within the top three in the region are also designated as All-Region athletes. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.

Matthew Denton earned All-Metro Region honors for both the 800 meters and the mile. His 800-meter time of 1:56.11 at the Keogh Invitational last month converted to a 1:54.48 for qualifying purposes and ranked as the fifth-best time in the Metro this season. Additionally, his mile time of 4:15.66 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational was also the fifth-best in the Metro Region."

Reza Eshghi also earned two All-Metro Region certificates for the mile and 3,000 meters. Eshghi's mile time came at the Valentine Invitational, where he ran his eventual NCAA qualifying time of 4:07.28, by far the fastest in the Metro Region. His 3,000-meter time of 8:26.39 converts to 8:20.57 for qualifying purposes and represents the third-fastest time in the Metro.

Peter LaRochelle owns the fastest 5,000-meter time in the Metro this season (14:30.04), while also taking home the fourth-fastest 3,000-meter mark to earn two awards. His time of 8:27.20 at the Seamus McElligott Invitational converts to 8:21.37 for qualifying purposes.

With the indoor season wrapping up for the men's team, Haverford will be represented by Eshghi in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. More information and a full preview are slated to be available later this week.
