Fords men run well against big fish at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Haverford men's cross country team raced to a fifth place finish at the 8-kilometer Princeton Invite Saturday morning, challenging the Division I teams at the meet and coming in ahead of in-state programs UPenn and Pitt.

The Fords continued their pack-mentality in races placing all five scoring runners between 24th and 38th place (of 179 runners) with a differential of just 13.7 seconds between the five.

Anders Hulleberg led the Fords in a time of 25 minutes, 42.8 seconds and was followed closely by teammates Joseph Carpenter (26th, 25:44.7) and Chris Southwick (29th, 25:46.9).

Completing the scoring places for the Fords were Andrew Lanham, who finished 32nd (25:50.5), and 38th place Jordan Schilit (25:56.5).

Tim Schoch was the sixth Ford and was just four seconds behind Schilit in 40th place.

Texas finished first in the team totals scoring 35 points and outdistancing second place Princeton by five points. St. Joseph's was third with 98 followed by Columbia with 126 and Haverford's 149 points.

The individual title went to Princeton's Brian Leung whose time of 24:54.8 was seven seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Donn Cabral.

The Fords will host the Haverford Invitational Friday afternoon for the next meet on their schedule.
