Fords race to top-10 finish at men's cross country nationals

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Haverford College men's cross country team finished in eighth place Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division III championship meet, registering their fifth top-10 finish in the last six years.

North Central (Ill.) University captured the team title and Centennial Conference champion Dickinson College was 22nd. Ricky Flynn, of 30th place Lynchburg (Va.) College, won the individual crown covering the 8-kilometer route at the Highland Park Golf Course in a time of 25 minutes, 9.8 seconds.

Andrew Lanham paced a Fords quintet that finished within 23 seconds of each other. Lanham was 43rd (team-scoring place) in a time of 26:27.0, 10 seconds ahead of teammate Chris Southwick (26:37.1) who was 59th. Anders Hulleberg was 66th (26:40.3) with Tim Schoch (77th, 26:44.5) and Joseph Carpenter (88th, 26:49.2) rounding out the scoring places for Haverford. The Fords' sixth runner, Andrew Sturner, finished 122nd in a time of 27:09.9.

A Second-Team All-Centennial runner this season, Lanham was 134th at last year's national meet and closed out the fall season when he was named to the men's cross country Philly-SiDA/Philadelphia Inquirer 2008 Academic All-Area Team.
