Hulleberg adds National Athlete of the Year accolades

NEW ORLEANS – Haverford College men's cross country national champion Anders Hulleberg was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III National Athlete of the Year for the 2010 season. Hulleberg led the Fords to their first national championship Saturday.

The last three weeks have been a whirlwind for Hulleberg. He claimed runner of the meet honors after taking first and helping Haverford to a Centennial Conference championship Oct. 30. Two weeks later, Hulleberg captured the Mideast Region crown as the Fords punched their ticket to the NCAA championship meet by finishing first.

This past Saturday, Hulleberg continued his dominance by topping Michael Spain of North Central (Ill.) by two seconds at the national championship. Hulleberg covered the course in a winning time of 24 minutes, 22.2 seconds,

Hulleberg became the third Haverford runner to win an individual national championship, joining Seamus McElligott in 1990 and current assistant coach J.B. Haglund in 2001.
