Fords men finish 5th at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Haverford College men's cross country team finished fifth -- and as the top Division III program -- Saturday in the championship race of the Princeton Inivitational, coming in ahead of D-I programs such as Stony Brook, Iona and Monmouth.

Tim Schoch paced the Fords' efforts Saturday crossing the finish in a time of 25 minutes, 13 seconds to place 15th in the field of 139 runners.

The five scoring runners for Haverford finished within 30 seconds of each other. The sixth and seventh runners for the Fords, Chris Stadler and Brian Sokas, were within 36 seconds of Schoch.

Faraz Sohail (21st, 25:20) and Peter Kissin (24th, 25:24) finished within the top 25 for Haverford. Eric Arnold was next in 31st (25:32) while Ivo Milic-Strkalj (25:43) rounded out the scoring positions for the Fords with a 45th-place finish.

The Fords posted a score of 136 points to finish 13 points ahead of Columbia and 38 ahead of Stony Brook. Cornell captured the championship race title with 50 points. Yale was third with 107 and St. Joseph's was fourth with 110.

In the open race of the invitational, the Fords were led to their third-place finish in the team scoring totals by Ethan Haswell's sixth-place finish. Haswell completed the course in a time of 26:08 while teammate Joel Christian, in seventh, was just three seconds behind. Ben Siqueiros (13th, 26:22), Avi Bregman (26:28) and Dave Colletta (24th, 26:45) were in the other scoring positions for Haverford.

Yale, with 33 points, was the top finisher in the open team race.

The Fords host the Haverford Invitational in their next outing, Oc.t 21, before concluding the conference-level portion of the schedule with the Centennial Conference championship meet on Oct. 29 in Carlisle, Pa. Haverford will be shooting for a second consecutive league championship in the meet hosted by Dickinson College.
