Men's cross country looks to capture 3rd straight regional title

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The top-ranked Haverford College men's cross country squad has its eyes on a third consecutive regional title as it prepares to run in the 2012 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship on Saturday at Big Spring Highschool in Newville, Pa.

Hosted by Dickinson College, the 8,000 meter regional race starting at 11 a.m. will give an automatic qualifying spot for the national championship meet to the top-two finishing teams while up to three other teams can receive at-large bids.

Leading the Fords' effort will be returning all-regional runners Jordan Schilit, Peter Kissin and Brian Sokas. Senior Schilit raced to a fourth-place finish at last year's regional meet while senior Kissin and junior Sokas (pictured) finished 14th and 22nd, respectively. Schilit and Sokas also earned All-American honors in 2011 due to their performance a week later on the national stage.

Junior Christopher Stadler, sophomore Joel Christian and junior Avi Bregman merited first-team all-Centennial honors this season and they will look to continue to make an impact on Saturday. Stadler, the conference's runner of the year, won the conference championship race in 24 minutes, 47.1 seconds to help Haverford claim its 18th Centennial crown in program history. Christian placed fourth and Bregman followed in fifth as the Fords took five of the top eight spots overall.

Freshman Charlie Marquardt and sophomore David Roza could also be factors as Haverford looks to qualify for its 20th consecutive appearance in the D-III national meet, held this year in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 17.
