No.14 Men's Cross Country Tallies Second Place Finish at Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No.14 Haverford College men's cross country team finished the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational in second place among the 40 teams in the event. The Fords ran in the Brown Race and had seven runners place among the top 100 finishers in a race that had 341 entrants.

Junior Charlie Marquardt registered the best time for the Fords with a 25:07 and a ninth place finish. Senior David Roza tallied a 13th place finish with a time of 25:16 while senior Joel Christian finished just 10 seconds behind his classmate and in the 17th position.

Sophomore Michael Brier shaved almost a minute off his time from last year's Paul Short Invite with a 25:54, finishing in 44th place. Sophomore Jimmy Gorman ran a 25:56, 29 seconds faster than his time last season. Senior John Curry sliced nine seconds off his 2013 time in the Paul Short Invite, tallying a 26:13. Senior David Marsico had a time of 26:20 which was one minute and 40 seconds fast than his pace last year.

Princeton University was the only team to finish with fewer points than Haverford. The Tigers had three runners among the top six finishers and five runners among the top 38 in the race. Centennial Conference rival Swarthmore finished the event in fifth place.

The Fords also had 17 runners in the open race which led to several runners having success. Sophomore Cormac Rada cut almost a minute from his 2013 run in this event with a time of 27:06. Sophomore Evan Hamilton was 35 seconds quicker than his time last season and junior Ryan Gooding ran a 28:00, a minute faster than his 2013 appearance in the Paul Short Invite.

Haverford will return to competition at the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 18 with the meet scheduled for 10 a.m.
