Marquardt Wins Mideast Regional; Fords finish Fourth

NEWVILLE, Pa. – Junior Charlie Marquardt won the individual Mideast Regional title with a time of 24:57.4. He set a new course record at the Big Spring High School and was one of only two runners in the 343 person field to finish in under 25 minutes. The Haverford College men's cross country team tallied a fourth place finish in the regional meet.

Marquardt became the first Fords' runner to win the Centennial Conference and Mideast Regional individual crown since Anders Hulleberg '11 in 2010. Hulleberg continued his dream season by winning the NCAA individual title, leading the Fords to the school's first NCAA team championship.

Senior David Roza set a personal best (25:06.5), finishing in fifth place. Since Marquardt and Roza finished in the top seven among runners not on the automatic qualifying teams, they have qualified for the national meet as individuals.

Senior Joel Christian ran a 25:46.1, good for 20th place. Marquardt, Roza and Christian gained all-region status.

Junior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia placed 42nd (26:06.1). Senior Soren Rasmussen ran to the 61st position (26:20.9). Sophomore Jimmy Gorman had a 69th place finish (26:38.7) and sophomore Michael Brier was 76th with a time of 26:49.3.

Carnegie Mellon won the Mideast Regional team title with five runners among the top 30 finishers, tallying 90 team points. Widener had two runners in the top six, placing second with 115 points. Centennial Conference rival, Johns Hopkins, was third, finishing with 119 points. The Fords had 129 points in their fourth place finish.

The at-large announcements for the NCAA Championships will be made on Sunday. The Fords are looking to reach the national meet for the 22nd straight season.
