Men's Cross Country Qualifies For NCAA Meet For 22nd Straight Year

USTFCCCA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa.  – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) announced the entire field of the NCAA Division III Championship and the Haverford College men's cross country team received an at-large bid.

The Fords finished fourth at the Mideast Regional on Saturday with junior Charlie Marquardt winning the individual title. Marquardt and senior David Roza were automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championship by virtue of finishing among the top seven finishers. However, the Fords will now send a full compliment of seven runners to the national meet with today's announcement.

Haverford also won the Centennial Conference Championship on Nov. 1, led by Marquardt's individual crown. The junior became the first Fords' runner to win back-to-back races since Anders Hulleberg '11 won the Mideast Regional and NCAA Championship meets during the 2010 season.

The Mideast Region got four teams in the national meet this season. Carnegie Mellon, who won the team title and Widener were the automatic qualifiers. Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins, the third place finisher in the regional, was the other team to make it.

The 2014 NCAA Championship meet will take place next Saturday in Wilmington, Ohio. The Fords will look for their sixth consecutive top ten finish and 10th in the last 11 years.
