Men's Cross Country Maintains #16 National Ranking

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team held steady in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) weekly poll and the Mideast Region rankings this week. The Fords are the No. 16 team in the national poll and No. 2 in the regional rankings.

North Central (Ill.) continues as the No. 1 team in the national poll with six first-place votes. SUNY Geneseo (two first place votes), Williams, UW-Eau Claire and MIT round out the top five. Carnegie Mellon remains at the top of the Mideast regional rankings. Haverford checks in above Centennial foes in both the national poll and regional rankings as Johns Hopkins is ranked No. 19 (third in the region) and Dickinson is No. 31 (fifth in the region). Mideast opponent Widener is overall and fourth in the region.

Haverford has competed in just one run so far this year, with the Alumni/Open race representing the lid-lifter at the Alumni Cross Country Course. Henry Woods was the Fords' top finisher in the race with a time of 15:07.7 while Jimmy Gorman (15:16.9), Greg Morgan (15.19.4), Graham Peet (15:20.8) and Ryan Herlihy (15:32.8) rounded out the top five Haverford harriers.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's team will host the Main Line Invitational on Friday (Sept. 16). The men's race is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. The Fords also host the Haverford Invitational (Oct. 21) before hosting the Centennial Conference Championships a week later (Oct. 29). The NCAA Mideast Regional (Nov. 12) takes place in Center Valley, Pa. and the NCAA Championships (Nov. 19) are in Louisville, Ky.
