HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team climbed up five spots, checking in at No. 15 in the latest USTFCCCA national coaches' poll, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords tallied 166 votes and again were ranked as the No. 2 squad in the regional rankings behind Carnegie Mellon.

North Central (Ill.) jumps ahead of SUNY Geneseo for the top spot in the poll, taking five of the eight first place votes, a reversal from last weekend when SUNY Geneseo took five first place tallies and North Central garnered three. Williams, UW-Eau Claire and MIT again round out the top five for the third straight week.

Haverford is the top Centennial Conference team nationally as Johns Hopkins fell nine spots to No. 30. Dickinson, who was idle this week, dropped out of the national rankings, receiving 11 votes.

Carnegie Mellon held onto its top rank in the Mideast regional poll with 80 voting points, but Haverford has tightened the gap between the two squads, taking 70 voting points this week. Johns Hopkins is third with 60 voting points. Dickinson and Widener round out the top five in the Mideast region for the fourth straight week of action.

Last week, The Fords placed fourth in a field of 43 teams at the Rowan Border Clash. Haverford claimed wins against No. 13 St. Lawrence and got revenge from a defeat two weekends ago at the hands of No. 18 NYU. The Fords were also six spots ahead of Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins in the final team standings in Glassboro, N.J.  Henry Woods was the team's top finisher as he placed 15th overall with a time of 23:56.7. Jimmy Gorman was second on the team and 23rd in the field as he crossed the line in a time of 24:13.9.

Haverford now returns home to host the Haverford Invitational on Friday, October 21 at the Alumni Cross Country Course. The men's race is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. The Centennial Conference Championships will be hosted at the Alumni Cross Country Course on October 29.
