Cross Country Teams Release 2017 Schedules

Men's Schedule | Women's Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's and women's cross country teams have announced their 2017 schedules. The men are scheduled to compete in four meets prior to the start of the postseason while the women will contest those same four events, plus three additional races before running for the conference crown.

The women get the fall started with the Haverford Open on Saturday, September 2. A week later, both teams will be running on the Alumni Cross Country Course during their Alumni/ae Opens. The home schedule also features the Main Line Invitational during the following Friday, September 15. Both home events will start with the women at 5 p.m. and the men to follow at 5:30.

Both teams head out on the road for the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday, September 29 and the Rowan Invitational on Saturday, October 14. In addition to those two meets, the women will race at Dickinson's Long/Short Invitational on September 30 and at the Gettysburg Invitational on October 21. Both of those extra races will be previews of postseason events to come.

The men have won 29 of the last 33 conference championships they have competed for, including 21 of the first 24 Centennial Conference Championships. With a current streak of three straight team titles, the Fords will look to add to their legacy when the meet is hosted by Gettysburg in October. The women have finished first or second at the conference meet during 17 of the last 24 championship races and are coming off a third place finish last fall.

The NCAA Mideast Regional will be hosted by Dickinson on Saturday, November 11. The top two teams automatically qualify to the NCAA Championship meet out of that regional. The men have made 24 straight appearances as a team at the national championships and have earned an automatic qualifier in 18 of those years. The most recent regional team title came in 2015. The women have qualified for seven of the last eight national championships as a team. They placed fifth last season before earning an at-large bid to the national meet.

Elsah, Illinois will be the site of the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship as Principia serves as the meet host. The men placed 18th a season ago with the women tallying the 23rd place finish in the field. Starting with the Centennial Conference Championship, all postseason events will have the women start at 11 a.m. with the men to follow at 12 p.m. noon.
