Men's Cross Country Ranked Ninth Nationally in Advance of Prestigious Paul Short Run

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team maintained its No. 9 national ranking in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches' poll, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon.

Overall, Haverford received 208 voting points coming off of a bye week. The Fords are slotted as the second team in the Mideast Region, behind only conference rival Johns Hopkins. Dickinson is the only other Centennial Conference team in the national poll, taking the No. 30 position, falling six spots from a week ago.

North Central (Ill.), SUNY Geneseo, Johns Hopkins, Wisconsin La Crosse and Pomona-Pitzer make up the top five in the poll this week. Johns Hopkins has reached its highest poll position in program history as the No. 3 team in the nation. Wisconsin- Eau Claire remains in the sixth position while RPI rockets up seventh spots to take seventh and Amherst climbs seven spots to take the eighth position. Loras is slotted one position below the Fords in 10th after tying Haverford for the ninth spot last week.

Head Coach Tom Donnelly's squad returns to action at the prestigious Paul Short Run on Friday, September 29 at Lehigh University. The event features top programs from across the national landscape of all three NCAA divisions.

Haverford will run in the 8K gold race on Friday. Division III competition in the gold race includes regional and conference rival No. 3 Johns Hopkins, No. 8 Amherst, No. 13 Christopher Newport, No. 15 Williams, No. 17 Middlebury and No. 24 TCNJ. The race also includes Division I programs No. 10 Iona, No. 17 Georgetown and host Lehigh along with noteables Arizona, Army, Cornell, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Connecticut and Wake Forest.

The event is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 8K open division race before the gold race kicks off at 11:00 am.
