HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team jumped a spot in the week one United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords, Division III's fifth-ranked team in the preseason, are now ranked fourth behind North Central (Ill.), Amherst, and Wisconsin-La Crosse. The squads from RPI, Pomona Pitzer, Washington-St. Louis, MIT, Middlebury, and Carleton round out the top 10. 

The No. 4 ranking is the highest week one showing for the Fords since the 2013 team was ranked second for the first three weeks of the fall season. Overall, Haverford received 259 voting points. The Fords are the top team in the Mideast Region, ahead of No. 13 Carnegie Mellon, No. 15 Johns Hopkins, No. 33 Dickinson, and Stevenson.

Haverford is coming off of a strong showing at the Haverford Alumni Open race. The top varsity finisher was senior Greg Morgan, who crossed the finish line of the three-mile course in 14:41 while senior Dylan Gearinger followed in 14:49. Senior Graham Peet (14:56), senior Ryan Herlihy (15:01), and junior Sam McCalpin (15:10) also turned in solid performances in the first test of the fall.

Haverford will have its first four-mile event of the season on Friday afternoon at the Main Line Invitational. The race will get underway at 5:30 p.m. and features the Fords racing alongside rival Swarthmore and area Division I programs Penn, Saint Joseph's, and Villanova.
