HAVERFORD, Pa. -  The Haverford College men's cross country team checks in as the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division III according to the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon. Haverford tops the Mideast region for the fifth consecutive week.

The Fords received 247 total voting points. North Central (Ill.) took the top spot in the poll with RPI, Pomona-Pitzer and Wisconsin-La Crosse following in second through fourth, respectively. Following the Fords were Washington-St. Louis, Carnegie Mellon, Williams, Calvin, and conference rival Johns Hopkins in sixth through 10th. Centennial foe Dickinson is the 31st ranked team in the nation. In regional rankings, Haverford tops No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, No. 10 Johns Hopkins, No. 31 Dickinson, and Stevenson to take home the No. 1 spot amongst teams in the Mideast.

Haverford finished as the top Division III team at the Paul Short Run Gold Race last Saturday as the team rose to its first significant early season challenge, easily eclipsing the finishes of NCAA podium teams in recent program history. Seniors Ryan Herlihy and Graham Peet each crossed the finish line in 25:09, becoming the top two Division III individual finishers in the process in 37th and 38th, respectively. Herlihy was named the Centennial Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday following the performance.

The Fords will next return to the course on Saturday, October 13 at the season's designated pre-national meet, the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Cross Country Invitational in Oshkosh, Wisc. Haverford will also have a group of runners stay a bit closer to home, competing at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial Invitational at Philadelphia's Belmont Plateau on the same afternoon.
