Men's Cross Country Looks Sharp in Gold Race at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 20th-ranked Haverford College men's cross country team tested itself against tough competition in the Men's Gold Race at the 47th annual Paul Short Run, crossing in 31st place in a 40-team field that featured mainly Division I squads at the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University.

Haverford finished ahead of Division I "Power 5" program Rutgers and sides from Division I Yale, Vermont, UMBC, Lafayette, American, and Hartford along with Division II Shippensburg. The top Haverford finisher in the race was junior Max Brelig, as he crossed the finish in 25:06.9 for a 146th place overall showing in the stacked field. Following Brelig was Ryan Kredell in 187th place overall, as the junior finished the course in 25:24.1. 

The next to toe the finish line for the Fords was Aaron Bratt, as the junior took a time of 25:34.6. Nico Tripeny was the fourth Haverford finisher, notching a personal-best time of 25:38.4 for 228th place. Charlie Ferguson then crossed in 245th place overall, taking a personal best of his own with a time of 25:46.3. Jamie Moreland finished in 25:47.6, also a new personal best for 249th place. First year Miles Colescott had an impressive 8K debut, crossing in 26:10.5 to finish just outside the scoring in 291st.  

In the open race, Peter Buckley was the first Haverford runner to cross, taking 60th overall in 25:49.7. Amos Karlsen was the 86th finisher in a personal-best 26:12.4. Ryan Quenemoen (26:47.1), Reza Eshghi (26:58.4), Seamus Fraser (27:10.6), Jacob Gaba (27:34.8), Luca Ponticello (27:39.8), Peter LaRochelle (27:42.5), Evan Daniels (27:51.1), Reed Solomon (27:57.1), and Sammy Schindel (27:59.3) all finished within the top 250 entrants in the 8K open race, which kicked off the festivities on the men's side.  

With a major midseason test now in the rear view, the Fords will next return to action on October 16 with the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. The race is slated to begin at noon as Haverford will look to establish itself against Metro region foes. The event will also serve as a regional course preview as the Fords are scheduled to return to the Gloucester County DREAM Park in Logan Township, N.J. on Saturday, November 13 for the Metro Region Championship.
