Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Rowan Border Battle

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The No. 21 Haverford Men's Cross Country team logged a fourth place finish in a field of 33 teams at the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday, with Max Brelig and Ryan Kredell finishing ninth and 10th, respectively, to pace the Fords on the 8K course at the Gloucester County DREAM Park. 

SUNY Geneseo took the team crown while Lynchburg finished second. Johns Hopkins finished just one point ahead of Haverford for third, setting up a showdown in the Centennial Conference championships in two weeks time as both teams eye the conference crown. Centennial foe Dickinson also impressed on Saturday, finishing a distant sixth overall. 

Haverford came out strong with the pairing of Brelig and Kredell both finishing above the top Johns Hopkins finisher. Brelig crossed in 25:34.7 while Kredell was just behind him in a time of 25:35.3.  Charlie Ferguson (25:55.2) finished 23rd while Aaron Bratt also logged a top 40 performance, crossing in 26:14.5. Amos Karlsen (26:35.9) was the 52nd to cross, rounding out the Haverford scorers. 

Just outside of the scoring for the Fords was Nico Tripeny, who finished the course in 27:02.2 for a 79th place overall finish, while Jamie Moreland was the seventh finisher for the Fords in 27:10.9 (82nd overall). Peter Buckley was 88th in a time of 27:16.1 and Miles Colescott was the 102nd to finish in 27:26.3. Ryan Quenemoen (28:02.2) rounded out the Haverford contingent in the championship race with a time of 28:02.2 for 140th overall. 

In the Men's 8K Open Race, Matt Denton finished seventh with a time of 27:39.3 while Jacob Gaba was 10th in 28:01. Peter LaRochelle (28:04.5, 14th), Luca Ponticello (28:10.7, 16th), and Seamus Fraser (28.29.1, 23rd) all crossed within the top 25 finishers. 

A Haverford contingent will be back in action on Friday, October 22 at home for the Haverford Invitational (5 p.m.) while the full squad will be back in action on Saturday, October 30 for the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Johns Hopkins. The men's race is slated to begin at noon.
