Men's Cross Country Concludes Season with 28th Consecutive Nationals Appearance

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -  The Haverford College men's cross country team marked its 28th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, finishing 32nd in the 8K race at the E.P "Tom" Sawyer State Park on the city's far-east side. The 2021 Metro Region Champions scored 780 points on the afternoon.

Reprising his role from the 2019 championships, junior Ryan Kredell was Haverford's top finisher, crossing in 139th overall with a personal-best time of 25:02.1. Kentucky native Max Brelig was Haverford's second finisher, taking 173rd place in 25:14.9 while Aaron Bratt was the next to toe the line, crossing in 25:45.6.

Peter Buckley was the fourth Haverford runner to cross, finishing in 25:51.9, ahead of Charlie Ferguson who finished the race strong, gaining seven places in the final two kilometers to log a 254th place overall finish in 25:55.5. Nico Tripeny (26:30.6) and Amos Karlsen (26:32.9) rounded out the Haverford contingent in 280th and 282nd, respectively.

Despite the cancellation of last year's championships, Buckley, Bratt, and Kredell are all on pace to be four-time NCAA qualifiers for Haverford, a feat that has only been matched 12 times in program history. Graham Peet was the last four-time qualifier for Haverford, achieving that mark in 2015-18.

Alex Phillip of John Carroll took home the individual title, crossing the finish in 23:27.6. Pomona-Pitzer won the team championship for the second straight season, scoring 80 points to outlast MIT (112 points) and Williams (167 points).

Haverford will now turn its attention to the indoor track season. The men's indoor track & field team will begin the 2021-22 season at the Haverford Holiday Meet, which is slated for Saturday, December 4. Events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. inside Alumni Field House.
