HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team received contributions from up and down the roster Tuesday night as it rolled past visiting Bryn Mawr College, 72-26, in Centennial Conference action.
Twelve of the 13 Fords to see action found their way into the scoring column led by Nina Voith's 12 points. Jacquelyne Pizzuto and Elizabeth Lynch chipped in with eight points apiece as Pizzuto was perfect from the field (3-for-3) and Lynch nailed two from behind the arc during an impressive offensive performance by Haverford in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.
The Fords (3-1, 2-0 CC) jumped out to a 14-2 advantage after five minutes of play on the strength of sizzling shooting from the field. Five different players scored points during the stretch as the Fords hit six of their first eight shots including two three-pointers. The Owls (1-3, 0-2) closed within eight (16-8) with 12 minutes remaining before Haverford reeled off 10 straight points over the next four minutes -- capped by a Pizzuto three-pointer -- to extend the lead to 26-8 at the eight-minute mark. The torrid pace continued throughout the remainder of the half as the Fords hit 50 percent of their shots (17-of-34) on the way to a 39-12 lead at intermission.
Freshman Emily Sweet tallied the initial seven points of her career to lead Haverford's balanced attack in the second half. Shannon Smith also provided solid minutes off the bench as she registered career-highs in rebounds (eight) and blocks (four). Pallavi Juneja added five points and three assists.
The Fords effectively shared the basketball throughout the night as they tallied 20 assists on 31 field goals. Rachel Baskin took game-high honors with five assists while Pizzuto contributed four.
Pressuring Bryn Mawr's offense over the duration of the contest, Haverford registered a season-high 17 steals and limited the Owls to just four second-chance points overall. Victoria Sobocinski, Hope Rainey and Baskin accounted for four steals apiece.
Ashlee Williams led Bryn Mawr with eight points while Lianda Curtis was active on the glass with seven rebounds.
Looking to keep their conference record spotless, the Fords head to Franklin & Marshall College on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. contest against the Diplomats.
