RICHMOND, Va. - Past and present members of the Haverford College women's basketball team participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS on Brown's Island this past Saturday.

Current Fords, as well as Vic Sobocinski '13 and Brittany Lattisaw '09, and head coach Bobbi Morgan took part in the three-mile walk alongside former Fords captain Dominique Meeks '13, who lost her mother, Libby Meeks, to ALS in August. Libby Meeks had battled the debilitating disease for more than a decade. The Haverford contingent, including strength & conditioning coach Cory Walts and his wife Ashley, joined with an Army from the Meeks family and members of the Mills Godwin High School football team.

The annual fundraiser aims to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure and to unite the community in the name of the cause.

Participating in the walk was the second time this month the women's basketball team demonstrated its commitment to raising awareness in the fight against ALS as the Fords volunteered at the 22nd Annual Billy Lake ALS Basketball Marathon that took place at Haverford's Gardner Integrated Athletic Center on Oct. 12.

The Haverford College community will come together in the name of the cause this spring on April 27 as it hosts the Seventh Annual Joe Schwartz '83 Memorial 3K. The event has has raised over $23,000 towards ALS research and drawn almost 900 participants over its six-year history.
