Women's Basketball Takes Part in Walk to Defeat ALS

RICHMOND, Va. – The Haverford College women's basketball team took part in the Walk to Defeat ALS event last Saturday.

Head coach Bobbi Morgan, several members of her team along with Rachel Baskin '14, Meredith Schoyer '13, Dominique Meeks '13 and strength & conditioning coach Cory Walts were among the many walkers that attended the event.

Meek's mother, Libby, passed away from ALS in August of 2013 after battling the disease for more than a decade.

The annual fundraiser aims to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure and to unite the community in the name of the cause. The former Fords' captain, Meeks, raised over $20,000 during the walk over the weekend.

Earlier in the month, the women's basketball team volunteered at the Billy Lake ALS Basketball Marathon, an event that raised over $26,725 towards research efforts by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association.

In the spring, the Haverford College community will host the Joe Schwartz '83 Memorial 3K Run/Walk which also donates proceeds to the ALS Association. During the seventh installment of the run in 2014, $10,000 was donated, making it the most successful event yet. During the event's seven years, the run has raised over $33,000.
