Women's Basketball Falls at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team held Dickinson to just 31.5 percent from the floor (17-of-54), but it was not enough as the Red Devils won 43-37 at the Kline Center on Saturday.

Senior Olivia Walsh led the Fords with eight points. Seven different Haverford players scored in the contest. Four Fords registered at least four rebounds, led by freshman Katie Cook snagging seven. The visitors also blocked six shots and secured four steals.

Haverford found itself trailing by five in the first quarter but a three-pointer by freshman Tori Hopkins set the score at 8-6 with 2:14 remaining. Dickinson held that same lead after the first 10 minutes of game play. In her first action of the season, freshman Amanda Quintero made a jump shot with under a minute remaining to put the Fords ahead, 19-18, heading into halftime. Haverford held Dickinson to just seven made baskets in the first half and created 11 turnovers.

The Fords stretched their lead to its largest of the contest at 27-20 following a three-pointer from Walsh with 5:40 left in the third quarter. Dickinson answered with a nine point outburst to take a 29-27 advantage, but Hopkins's basket from beyond the arc on the next possession gave Haverford a one-point lead after three quarters.

In the final quarter, the two teams exchanged four lead changes before a jumper by Dickinson Kassidy Lesher with five minutes to go to put the home team in front for good. Dickinson's Helen Roberts led all scorers with 14 points while her teammate Sam Kennedy had 10 points in the win.

With the loss, head coach Bobbi Morgan's team fell to 3-3 on the season and dropped to 0-2 in the early portion of Centennial Conference play. Dickinson improved to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Fords return home to Gooding '84 Arena on Monday as they take on the Cedar Crest Falcons. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
