HAVERFORD, Pa. – Behind three players in double figures, the Haverford College women's basketball team (9-6, 4-4 CC) took down the Ursinus College Bears (7-9, 6-4 CC), 52-50, at the Gooding '84 Arena on Wednesday night.

For the fourth time in the last five games, senior Olivia Walsh scored at least 10 points, dropping 13 on 5-of-8 shooting. The senior added eight rebounds, four assists and a steal. Sophomore Samantha Wetzel posted 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Wetzel has swatted at least five shots in three straight and seven games overall this season. Freshman Tori Hopkins had a career-high 12 points off the bench while sophomore Sierra Berkel was one point shy of a double-double, snagging 12 rebounds in the win.

Head coach Bobbi Morgan's squad started the contest with an early barrage on the offensive end. The Fords scored the first seven points, making three of their first four attempts, leading to a Bears timeout. An Ursinus basket did little to stop the run as Haverford scored on the next two possessions, leading to another timeout by the road team. The Fords led 14-6 after one quarter, highlighted by Walsh's eight points. In the second frame, the Bears got within two on several occasions, but went into halftime trailing, 24-21, outscoring the Fords, 15-10 in the stanza.

Ursinus took its first lead of the conference matchup in the third quarter on a fast break layup by Elana Roadcloud at the 7:22 mark. The two teams exchanged baskets before a three-pointer from Alyssa Polimeni gave Ursinus its largest advantage of the game at 32-29. That was short lived as the Fords tallied four straight to jump in front with 3:12 to go in the quarter. A basket from beyond the arc from Hopkins put Haverford ahead 37-35 at the end of the three.

The closely contested fourth quarter had Haverford holding a one point lead before a trey by Ursinus' Olivia Kane flipped the score back to the Bears' side, 42-41. On the next possession, Hopkins sank a basket from long range to set the score at 44-42 with 3:43 remaining.

With the shot clock ticking down, junior Clio Bodie drove from the right side of the three-point line into the paint and threw up a hook shot that gave the Fords some separation (46-42) as the game clock sat at two minutes. The Bears didn't go away, trailing by five, Kane put down another long ball with 53 seconds left. Six free throws by the Fords in the final minute proved to be enough of a spread as they improved to 4-4 in the Centennial Conference with the victory.

Tonight was the women's basketball team's fifth straight win over Ursinus. The team will travel to Johns Hopkins on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. With the impending snow storm this weekend, check out HaverfordAthletics.com for schedule updates. Haverford will battle three Centennial Conference opponents next week beginning at Washington College on Monday (6 p.m.).
