SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team managed to hang on to a late lead and hold off rival Swarthmore's rally attempt in a crucial final game of the regular season. The 50-47 win keeps the Fords (15-10, 10-8 CC) in playoff position.

The Garnet (5-20, 3-15 CC) outscored Haverford 19-13 in the fourth quarter, but the Fords made some clutch free throws to keep their opponents in check. As a team, Haverford went 9-for-10 from the line in the final 3:30 of regulation. Still, Swarthmore was able to come back from a seven-point deficit in that time frame to make it a one-point game with two seconds to go. A pair of Katie Cook free throws increased the lead to three and the Garnet weren't able to get a final shot away as time expired.

The game was tight throughout as there were a number of lead changes in the first half and no team held a larger advantage than six points until the end of the third quarter when Haverford used a 10-2 run, led by two layups and a pair of free throws by leading scorer Sierra Berkel, to build a seemingly comfortable lead.

Berkel had an efficient day from the field, shooting 6-for-11 for a game-high 19 points. The sophomore forward shot 4-for-4 in the second half. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Swarthmore started to heat up and threatened Haverford's lead towards the end of the fourth quarter. The Garnet made four of their last five field goals, including two three-pointers, before the Fords were able to hold them off.

In her final regular season game for Haverford, senior Olivia Walsh scored 11 points, including two three-pointers. Walsh added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Samantha Wetzel had eight points, eight rebounds, and blocked two shots in the contest.

The Fords will now await the results of Monday's game between Gettysburg and Ursinus. Haverford would qualify for the Centennial Conference tournament for the fifth consecutive season with a Gettysburg win. The conference tournament is set to begin Tuesday.
