HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team extended its win streak to six games with a 58-44 victory over the visiting Immaculata Mighty Macs on Monday evening at the Gooding '84 Arena. The Fords were buoyed by four double-digit scoring nights as Sierra Berkel, Katie Cook, Macy Goldbach, and Samantha Wetzel all tallied double-digit outputs. Berkel, the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, led the way with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Haverford improves to 10-4 on the season while Immaculata falls to 3-12 overall.

The Mighty Macs held with the Fords early in the contest, as a Tamyra Laws jumper gave the visitors an early 8-4 lead. Haverford battled back to take a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter with a Cook three-pointer that fell with 45 seconds remaining in the period.

The Fords regained a four point lead with 6:01 left in the second quarter after a Wetzel layup, but a 5-0 run by Immaculata gave the visitors a 17-16 advantage. A Wetzel layup with 2:25 left in the half restored the four point lead at 22-18 before another 5-0 spurt from the Mighty Macs was punctuated with an Amber Ballinger trey that gave Immaculata the 23-22 lead. The squads traded then layups, with Annie Kohutka converting with 12 seconds left to give the visitors the halftime lead at 25-24.

At the half, Wetzel led the Fords with eight points. Haverford shot 31.3 percent in the first half while the Immaculata shot 32.1 percent. Haverford benefited from an early 50 to 10 percent edge from beyond the arc.

The visitors remained close with the Fords into the third, with Laws hitting a layup with 7:24 left in the quarter to give the Mighty Macs a 31-28 advantage. Goldbach hit a three-pointer on the other end of the court to tie the score and scored the next two buckets, single-handedly giving Haverford a 5-0 run and a 36-31 lead.  Kohutka ended the run with a jumper, but Goldbach buried another three-pointer to put the Fords up six before Wetzel found Berkel down low for a layup and a eight point advantage as time expired in the penultimate quarter.

The run eventually stretched to 11-0 in favor of the Fords, with Unique Tuberville and Wetzel finishing on layups for a 47-33 lead. The Fords scored nine of their final 14 points from the free-throw line, reprising the great performance in the crucial moments against Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon. Haverford finished 12-of-14 from the charity stripe to seal a sixth straight triumph.

Cook, Goldbach and Wetzel all finished with 12 points while Wetzel tied a career-best with six blocks. The two squads combined for just five bench points in a game that saw the starting lineups see extended minutes. Megan Furch had a career-best eight rebounds while Tuberville added six off the bench. For the visitors, Laws had 22 rebounds, proving to be a force on the glass and adding 13 points. Theresa Walsh (13) and Kohutka (11) also scored in double figures for the Mighty Macs.

Haverford returns to action on Wednesday as Centennial Conference action continues with a trip to Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore. The women's game is slated for 6 p.m. with the men's squads scheduled to meet at 8 p.m.
